Welcome to Southlake

A sophisticated city buzzing with hometown pride

Southlake is a sophisticated city north of Dallas-Fort Worth that is full of luxurious amenities and neighborly charm. It’s the type of place where people stay or, if they do end up leaving, often move back to later. After all, “once a dragon, always a dragon” is more than just a phrase; it’s a way of life and a deep sense of pride that Southlake residents carry with them for life.

Summer in Southlake is a hot affair, sending residents flocking to Lake Grapevine for sunny days on the water or along the shore. Winter in Southlake is very mild, and the city rarely sees any snow. No matter what time of year, there is always something to enjoy outdoors.

Southlake has been a proud part of Texas tradition since the early 19th Century, but it began to flourish when the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport opened in the 1970s, bringing a boom of business and residential plans. Southlake is full of stunning mansions of various architectural styles, and there’s plenty of space here, so many homes sit on larger lots.

Local Lifestyle

Southlake may be close enough to Dallas-Fort Worth to be considered part of the metroplex area, but they prefer to stand apart. The school mascot turned town mascot is a dragon, and Dragon Pride runs deep. This city feels like a laid-back small town, full of community events and friendly neighbors, but it also has big-city amenities. It’s truly an idyllic place to live and raise a family.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Southlake has an energetic hum to it everywhere you go. Maybe it’s the deep sense of community pride, or perhaps it’s just the excitement from having so many incredible options to choose from. There are multiple shopping centers throughout Southlake, but the centerpiece of them all is Southlake Town Square

With name-brand stores, award-winning restaurants, and plenty of curated space to hang out, Southlake Town Square lives up to its name. Load up on luxury items at stores like lululemon athletica, Malouf’s, and Evereve. If you work up an appetite with all that retail therapy, make your way to Whistle Britches for some of the best-fried chicken in the area. You can also hit the happy hour at Moxie’s or fill up on Tex Mex at Muchacho.

During the hot summer months, Steel City Pops is a great place to cool down with one of their refreshingly icy treats. Southlake is a food lover’s paradise, with more options and cuisines than there is time. Feedstore BBQ is a local, family-owned joint that serves some of the best barbeques in the area. The expansive menu and unique atmosphere of Ozeki Ramen & Sushi Izakaya are sure to satisfy your cravings for authentic Japanese cuisine.

Things to Do

Southlake is full of great outdoor spots. It gets its name from being just below Lake Grapevine. The lake is full of amenities, including hiking, camping, fishing, and even a floating water park.

There are also several beautiful parks within Southlake. Bob Jones Park has a nature center, soccer fields, and a first-class fishing area. When it comes to golf and country clubs, Southlake residents have plenty of options. There is the exclusive Timarron Country Club, the secluded Vaquero Club in nearby Westlake, or the more accessible Sky Creek Ranch Golf Club.

Every fall, the dragon pride shows its true colors during football season, when high school football attracts many fervent supporters. Movies at the Marq is an outdoor summer movie series at the Aria Amphitheater. Southlake has an incredible Oktoberfest, complete with lots of lederhosen and a wiener dog race. Southlake rarely gets snow, thanks to its mild winter weather, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an abundance of holiday spirit. The annual Home for the Holidays celebration brings residents out for tree lighting, carriage rides, caroling, and all the Christmas magic.
